Explaining that he proposed the candidacy of 86-year-old Hikmet Çetin for the May 14 elections, Davutoğlu said, "The name I proposed to the Table of Six as a presidential candidate was Hikmet Çetin. He was no stranger to the Kurds, he knew the state well, and he was a name from the main opposition party."
Hikmet Çetin served as the Chairman of the Republican People's Party between February 18, 1995, and September 9, 1995.
