Davutoğlu's first comment on the party Özgür Özel is set to establish! 'If a new party is being founded...'
Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu evaluated claims of a new party with an emphasis on political courtesy, calling for common ground within the opposition.
Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu made evaluations regarding CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statements about the establishment of a new party. Responding to journalists' questions after the New Path Group's weekly group meeting, Davutoğlu stated that he does not find it appropriate in terms of "political courtesy" to make negative comments about developments occurring in another party.
Davutoğlu said, "If a new party is being founded, it falls to us to say 'good luck.' But my advice is that we should look at where we can meet on common ground beyond minor disagreements."
Stating that there are two fundamental risks in Turkish politics, Davutoğlu expressed that the first is the concentration of power and politics in a single hand, and the second is the fragmentation of politics, which prevents the formation of strong alternatives. Davutoğlu remarked, "Unfortunately, we are experiencing both at the same time."
Arguing that the government shapes the law and the system according to its own understanding, Davutoğlu noted that the debates within the opposition also make it difficult for a strong alternative to emerge. Stating that there is a need to talk again about common values, common moral standards, and a common vision in politics, Davutoğlu used the expression, "We have reached the limits of getting anywhere by constantly differentiating and accusing one another."
CRITICISM OF "INTERFERENCE IN POLITICS"
Touching upon the judicial process regarding the CHP, Davutoğlu said, "I have stated on every occasion that I am against the absolute nullity decision taken against the Republican People's Party. It is not a correct decision; it carries the nature of an interference in politics."
Davutoğlu also spoke about the contacts Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has made with political parties. Stating that a message of support was given that the "Terror-Free Turkey" process should reach success, Davutoğlu said that, despite this, no concrete content regarding the parliamentary leg of the process has been shared.
Davutoğlu said, "The honorable Parliament Speaker said, 'The Terror-Free Turkey process must reach success.' We all gave our support. But he has not said anything substantive regarding the parliamentary leg of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process. He only expressed support," he said.
Stating that Turkey is trying to solve problems that have been ongoing for many years on one hand, while facing legal interventions and debates regarding politics on the other, Davutoğlu said, "The most primary principle of all politicians should be to protect the reputation of politics and the politician. I hope the new party will contribute to this."
