Death threat against Murat Ağırel: CHP deputy calls on Yerlikaya for urgent measures
CHP Muğla Deputy Cumhur Uzun has called on Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to take action regarding the death threats received by journalist Murat Ağırel. Holding the government and Minister Yerlikaya responsible for Ağırel's safety, Uzun stated, "From this moment on, if even a hair on Ağırel's head is harmed, the government and Minister Yerlikaya will be responsible."
CHP Muğla Deputy Cumhur Uzun has issued a call to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya regarding the death threats received by journalist Murat Ağırel.
Following Ağırel's social media post alleging that a contract had been put out on his life, Uzun urged Interior Minister Yerlikaya to take immediate action.
CALLED ON THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR TO ACT
In his statement, Uzun said, "Mr. Murat Ağırel, one of our country's respected journalists, has previously shared with the public that he has been threatened many times. In a social media post he made yesterday, he alleged that someone had essentially put out a contract for his murder, as spoken by a masked individual. The Ministry of Interior must evaluate these allegations with great diligence and take all necessary measures immediately."
'THE COUNTRY IS BECOMING MORE INSECURE EVERY DAY'
Criticizing the government's policies of pressure and censorship, Uzun stated, "While the government increases its pressure, it imprisons many journalists and dissidents, and demonizes almost everyone who opposes it. On the other hand, illegal formations are increasing on the streets of an unmanaged Turkey, and our country is becoming more insecure every day. While those who express their opinions in street interviews are arrested and sent to prison, thousands of people wanted for various crimes walk the streets freely. Empowered by political will and a management vacuum, executions are carried out in the middle of the street, and artists, journalists, and writers who are public figures are subjected to threats and insults. Mr. Ağırel is the latest example of this. From this moment on, if even a hair on Ağırel's head is harmed, the government and Minister Yerlikaya will be responsible."
Cumhur Uzun directed the following questions to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya:
Is there an investigation being conducted by your ministry regarding the threat mentioned in the video shared on Murat Ağırel's social media account?
Murat Ağırel has previously shared with the public that he has been threatened and followed many times, and that suspicious individuals have been loitering in front of his house. What work has your ministry done to date regarding these allegations?
How many people have been detained or arrested to date for threatening and stalking Mr. Ağırel?
Has your ministry assigned anyone to protect Murat Ağırel? Has he been provided with security detail? After so many threats, has there been any contact with Mr. Murat Ağırel on your part?
