Decision day for three CHP municipalities
Acting mayors will be elected in the municipal councils tomorrow to replace the CHP mayors of Büyükçekmece, Gaziosmanpaşa, and Avcılar, who were arrested and suspended from duty as part of a corruption investigation.
Following the corruption investigation conducted by the Ministry of Interior into CHP municipalities, elections for acting mayors will be held in the municipal councils on Tuesday, June 11, to replace the three district mayors who were arrested.
Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, and Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara were arrested and suspended from their duties in recent days as part of the investigation.
For this reason, in order to fill the vacancies in municipal administration, the three district councils will convene in an extraordinary session tomorrow to determine the new acting mayors.
CHP CANDIDATES EXPECTED TO BE ELECTED IN AVCILAR AND BÜYÜKÇEKMECE
Since the Republican People's Party (CHP) holds the majority in the Avcılar and Büyükçekmece district councils, it is considered certain that the municipal council members nominated by the party will be elected as acting mayors.
The election process in these two districts is seen primarily as a procedural step, and the current CHP administration will be temporarily maintained by the acting mayors.
ALL EYES ON GAZİOSMANPAŞA
The most notable development is expected to take place in Gaziosmanpaşa. This is because the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) holds the majority in the municipal council in this district. Therefore, it is almost certain that an AKP council member will be elected as the acting mayor to replace the arrested CHP Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe.
This change will effectively transfer the administration of the district directly to the People's Alliance.
