Decision made to send Can Atalay case file to the Court of Cassation
Despite the Constitutional Court's 'rights violation' ruling, the case file of Can Atalay, who has not been released, has been sent to the Court of Cassation by the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court.
The Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court has decided to send the case file of Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MP Can Atalay to the Court of Cassation for a ruling, following the Constitutional Court's (AYM) second decision finding a violation of rights.
'RELEASE ORDER' WAS EXPECTED TO BE IMPLEMENTED
Lawyers for Can Atalay, who was elected as a Hatay MP while in prison and for whom the Constitutional Court ruled for his release for the second time on December 21, had been waiting for the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court panel to implement the release order since 10:30 AM.
TİP IN SIT-IN PROTEST
Can Atalay's lawyers protested the fact that the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court panel had not implemented the release order since 10:30 AM. The TİP delegation chanted slogans saying, "The people of Hatay want their MP." The TİP delegation had begun a sit-in protest in front of the courthouse.
