Decision to revoke İmamoğlu's diploma delivered 55 days later: The timing is suspicious!

The university diploma of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the presidential candidate for the Republican People's Party (CHP) and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), was revoked by Istanbul University in a decision taken on March 18. The university declared the undergraduate diplomas of a total of 28 people, including İmamoğlu, invalid on the grounds of "non-existence" and "obvious error." However, the notification of this decision was only delivered to İmamoğlu yesterday morning (May 12).

According to a report by Ali Macit from Sözcü, the university explained the delay in notification by claiming the "address could not be found," and listed his home in Beylikdüzü as the address instead of his place of detention in Silivri. The notification was signed by Yahya Güldiken as a proxy for Rector Osman Bülent Zülfikar. It was noted that the notification was made on the same day and within an hour of the terrorist organization PKK's announcement of dissolution.

ALLEGATION OF IRREGULAR LATERAL TRANSFER

According to the decision taken at the Istanbul University board of directors meeting on March 18, 2025, it was alleged that İmamoğlu made an irregular lateral transfer to the Business Administration (English) Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Business Administration in 1990. For this reason, the lateral transfer decision and the graduation and diploma obtained based on this decision were revoked on the grounds of "non-existence" and "obvious error." In line with the decision, İmamoğlu's graduation from the Business Administration (English) Program and his diploma were deemed invalid.
