DEM Party calls for Imralı minutes once again: 'Unacceptable'

As the National Unity, Solidarity and Democracy Commission meeting continues in Parliament, where a decision regarding the Imralı minutes is expected, a notable call has come from the DEM Party front. DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated that the commission is fulfilling a historic function and demanded that the minutes be disclosed to the public.

“THIS DECISION WAS TAKEN WITH INCOMPLETE REPRESENTATION”

Ayşegül Doğan stated that they wanted the meeting with the delegation that went to Imralı Island and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to take place with the participation of all political parties, but that this could not be achieved. Expressing that the decision was taken with incomplete representation, Doğan noted that the process is continuing despite this.

Emphasizing that the discussions in the commission should be conducted transparently, Doğan said that it is of vital importance for the process to be socialized and to proceed openly to the public. She stated that no information that should be shared with society should be hidden.

CALL FOR “MINUTES TO BE READ DIRECTLY”

Demanding that the minutes of the meeting held with Öcalan by the 3-person delegation consisting of AKP, MHP, and DEM Party representatives who went to Imralı be read openly in the commission, Doğan stated that there is no need for indirect accounts. She demanded that the meeting be conveyed directly and that the information presented to the commission be accessible to anyone who wishes.

In her statement while the commission meeting was ongoing, Doğan stated that they expect the decision to be in the direction of disclosing the minutes, adding that any contrary situation would be unacceptable. She emphasized that the process has not been conducted in secret until now, and it should not be conducted in secret from now on.

“SECOND PHASE OF THE PROCESS” STATEMENT

Expressing that the commission's plans for transitioning to the second phase are also a matter of public curiosity, Doğan said that the process is at a historical threshold. She stated that all political parties must adopt a common stance for the democratization of Turkey.

CALL TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR LEGAL REGULATIONS

Drawing attention to the importance of legal regulations for peace and democratic integration, Doğan said that this process should be addressed in the Parliament General Assembly and all relevant commissions. She expressed that joint work should be done for peace laws, democratic integration laws, freedoms, and regulations aimed at social integration.

Stating that lasting peace is one of the most critical issues for the peoples of Turkey, Doğan said that they expect the decision to emerge from the commission to turn into a recommendation report, that each political party will share its own preparations, and that the process should evolve into a joint effort.

OBJECTION TO THE JUDICIAL PACKAGE

Touching upon the Judicial Package, Doğan referred to the exclusion of terror crimes from the package and emphasized that their party bases its stance on the principle of equality in execution. She stated that this principle should be taken into account not only for the current package but also in all legal regulations to be made hereafter.

Stating that the culture of impunity in the fight against violence against women and children must be eliminated, Doğan indicated that it is impossible for them to adopt a different stance toward any legal regulation in which the principles of law, equality, and justice are not observed.
