DEM Party holds group meeting in Mardin: Reaction to appointed trustees: Call for 'Parliament to take action'

The DEM Party is holding its group meeting in Mardin to protest the trustees appointed to the Mardin and Batman municipalities.

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruç spoke at the group meeting.

Highlights from the speech are as follows:

We are holding our group meeting here in Mardin to challenge the trustee coup. We believe that we will repel this trustee coup together from Mardin, Batman, and Esenyurt. Since 2015, Turkey has experienced an uninterrupted coup process against democratic politics.

The purpose of this trustee is to tell the Kurd, 'You cannot choose, you cannot be chosen.' A trustee means a coup against democracy. A trustee means not recognizing the political will of the Kurdish people.

Do not think that this trustee mentality only harms the Kurds.

The AKP-MHP is not a party of Turkey. It ignores all parties other than itself. The biggest obstacle to becoming a party of Turkey is the AKP-MHP.

Yesterday, we visited the resistance in Batman with our co-chair Tuncer Bakırhan. Our co-chair's speech was taken out of context and targeted by the pro-government media. A political lynching is being carried out against our party. Let it be known that we know the weight of every word that comes out of our mouths. We know its historical importance and meaning.

"I wish we could have met with you today on a topic other than the trustee agenda. We are holding our Tuesday group meeting here in Mardin to challenge the trustee and show local reactions.

On the November 4, 2016 coup, HDP co-chairs Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, and our other deputies were detained. The government imprisoned our valuable elected officials who received the votes of hundreds of thousands of people. They gave them dozens of years in prison with the Kobani conspiracy case. These practices reminded us of Kenan Evren, Tahsin Şahinkaya, and the coup plotters of February 28.

When a trustee was appointed in her place, our friend Devrim Demir, as someone coming from the women's struggle, when did she get tired of the struggle? We will return this coup to its owners by growing our struggle and solidarity all over Turkey. The purpose of this trustee is to take away the citizen's right to vote and be elected. It means 'You cannot choose, you cannot be chosen.' A trustee means not recognizing the political will of the Kurdish people. It means 'If you do not pledge allegiance to me, I will not recognize your political will.'

Do not think that this trustee mentality only harms the Kurds, only harms the DEM Party. As in the case of Esenyurt, the trustee mentality abolishes elections, eliminates elections. A trustee means not recognizing the will of the peoples living in Turkey.

The trustee mentality is eliminating elections. The AKP and MHP are not parties of Turkey; they are pro-government parties. The biggest obstacle to becoming a party of Turkey is the AKP and MHP alliance. This should be known as such.

After Hatimoğulları, Bakırhan took the podium. Highlights from Bakırhan's speech are as follows:

"November 4 is the anniversary of the political coup. But we know that the trustee regime applied today in Mardin, Batman, Halfeti, and Esenyurt is nothing for our peoples.

There are two lines in Turkey. Those who want a trustee republic and those who want a democratic republic. They appointed a trustee to Hakkari, and they said they appointed trustees to Mardin, Esenyurt, Halfeti, and Batman due to terrorism.

They hid all evils, injustices, illegalities, and corruption behind the mask of 'terrorism.'

If you are looking for terrorism, look at your distance from democracy. If you are looking for separatism, look at the differences between the east and the west. You are the real separatists. If you are looking for terrorism, you should take a look at the coups you have made against democracy since 2015. Gülistan Sönük is the co-chair elected with the most votes in Turkey. You appointed a trustee to the will of the peoples.

Aren't those who extended their hands yesterday the same ones who appoint trustees today? How are we to believe in their sincerity?
