After Başak Demirtaş, the wife of imprisoned former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, withdrew her candidacy for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, there was much speculation about who the DEM Party's Istanbul candidate would be. DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan announced that the party's candidates for Istanbul are Meral Danış Beştaş and Murat Çepni.

Meral Danış Beştaş and Murat Çepni named as DEM Party's Istanbul candidates

Following the withdrawal of Başak Demirtaş, the wife of imprisoned former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral race, all eyes turned to the DEM Party.

Here are the highlights from the statement made by DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan:

"At this stage, we continue to announce our candidates within the scope of the urban consensus. We wish success to all the mayoral co-candidate nominees I will announce now, and to everyone walking this path with us. We say that the DEM will come and the tide will turn. I will start with the new locations and district municipalities we are announcing first."

The DEM Party's metropolitan candidates are as follows:

Antalya - Kemal Bülbül

Diyarbakır - Serra Bucak, Doğan Hatun

Konya - Gülbahar Gündüz, Bülent Kılıç

Malatya - Sivir Şimşek, Abdullah Ekin

Kahramanmaraş - Fatma Şıkyürek, Ali Ardıç

Mardin - Bengün Demir, Ahmet Türk

Trabzon - Leyla Üzüm

Van - Abdullah Zeydan

The provinces announced by Doğan are as follows:

Bilecik - Züleyha Çengel, Ömer Ege

Bitlis - Sümeyye Kızıltepe, Enver Barın
