DEM Party reacts to Kılıçdaroğlu over Kobani Case
DEM Party Erzurum MP Meral Danış Beştaş responded to a social media post by former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu regarding the verdicts in the Kobani Case.
Verdicts have been announced in the 108-defendant Kobani Case, in which former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ were also tried. Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk was sentenced to 10 years in prison for membership in an armed terrorist organization. Demirtaş was sentenced to 42 years, and Yüksekdağ was sentenced to 30 years and 3 months in prison.
CHP's 7th Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, in a post on his social media account following the announcement of the verdicts, commented, "The scales of justice were broken once again today."
Kılıçdaroğlu included the following statements in his post:
"As in every country where the legislative, executive, and judiciary are handed over to a single man, unfortunately, in our country too, the door to seeking justice has become closed to the righteous and the oppressed, and has come to serve the interests of dictators and their associates.
Let no one forget, the validity of all the decisions made today lasts only as long as the authoritarian government remains in power. These decisions have no validity in the conscience of the public or in the eyes of our nation.
That is why one does not shake hands with dictatorial regimes and does not become an instrument of the system!
All of this is not normal; it is neither conscientious nor moral. Fighting against authoritarian rule is our only option on this path. All democrats must see this reality.
If we give up, the blow to our nation's neck will be even more severe.
Let us not forget: There is no other Turkey!"
