DEM Party Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları released a statement on their social media accounts regarding the anniversary of the process associated with the removal of PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan from Syria, which the party describes as an "international conspiracy."
In his statement, Bakırhan argued that the process in question was intended to interfere with the future of the peoples of Turkey and the Middle East. "With this conspiracy, there was an attempt to interfere with the future of the peoples of the Middle East and Turkey. The goal was to weaken the will of the peoples to live together and to redefine the fate of the region by deepening the conflict. On this anniversary, we once again condemn this conspiracy," he stated.
Stating that Öcalan has been developing a democratic solution approach in İmralı for 27 years, Bakırhan said that at the current stage, the topics of peace and a democratic society have come to the fore instead of conflict. Bakırhan said, "The transformation of this period into a lasting peace depends on Mr. Öcalan being able to work under free conditions and convey his thoughts to society."
Hatimoğulları also stated that the process, which she defined as the "Peace and Democratic Society Process," highlights the importance of the peace effort that she claims Öcalan has been maintaining for years.
Hatimoğulları stated, "For the 'Peace and Democratic Society Process' to succeed, the path must be cleared for Mr. Öcalan to work and communicate under free conditions; it must be ensured that negotiations are conducted under equal conditions."
In her assessment regarding October 9, DEM Party Co-Chair Hatimoğulları also called for "building an equal, fair, and democratic future together."
