DEM Party's first group meeting after Imralı visit: 'We will uphold peace'

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made assessments regarding the agenda at the parliamentary meeting.

Hatimoğulları's statements are as follows:

Drawing attention to the inequalities women face in working life, Hatimoğulları recalled that 7 women lost their lives in a factory fire in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli and stated that a new labor law must be enacted.

Hatimoğulları called for the implementation of equal pay for equal work policies and the development of policies to increase women's employment.

Continuing her speech, Hatimoğulları recalled the "City Consensus" case to be heard on November 27 and stated, "If we are to socialize peace, our friends must be released immediately."

Noting that Turkey is going through an important process, Hatimoğulları said, "In wars, the first voice to be silenced is the voice of women. We, as women, are clinging to peace with all our might so that Turkey can be saved from this tragedy. Peace is built with a language and voice that is pro-women's freedom."

"WE WILL UPHOLD PEACE FOREVER"

Stating that they find equal representation at the peace table and an active role in decision-making mechanisms important, Hatimoğulları used the following expressions: "We will build life and a democratic future. It is time to bury weapons, not our children anymore. We will build a non-violent society together, and we will uphold peace forever."

Noting that the process commission established in Parliament held an important meeting with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı, Hatimoğulları said, "A constructive, inclusive, and hopeful meeting took place." Noting that the latest situation in Syria was also brought to the agenda and evaluated during the commission's meeting with Öcalan, Hatimoğulları said, "As of yesterday, a historic threshold has been crossed."
