DEM Party's 'peace' call to the government! 'Listen to the demands'
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları evaluated the agenda at her party's parliamentary group meeting. Calling on the government to take responsibility, Hatimoğulları emphasized that the public's demands for peace must be heeded.
Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made statements regarding the agenda at her party's group meeting.
Hatimoğulları began her speech by conveying her get-well wishes to Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who is currently receiving treatment in intensive care, saying, "In the statement made by his doctors yesterday, they said that Önder's life-threatening condition continues to increase. We are very sad, but we will not lose hope. Dear Sırrı Süreyya Önder is a part of this country's story, which is full of pain and hope. We are all waiting for you."
"THE DISASTER WAS AVERTED BUT THE GOVERNMENT'S MIND IS STILL ON KANAL ISTANBUL"
The highlights of Hatimoğulları's speech are as follows:
"On April 23, we experienced a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul. I wish a speedy recovery to everyone affected, especially the people of Istanbul. As peoples who experienced great pain on February 6, our hearts were in our mouths during the Istanbul earthquake. These earthquakes have shown us once again that, as millions, we are helpless against earthquakes.
There is a great earthquake risk, but the mayor is imprisoned, the municipal administration is imprisoned, and trustees have been appointed to some municipalities. This is how Istanbul faced the earthquake. Millions survived a major disaster, but the government's mind is still on Kanal Istanbul. The Kanal Istanbul project means setting Istanbul on fire. Abandon the project immediately. Instead of safe housing and robust infrastructure, they are still chasing rent."
It has been 2 years since the earthquake in Hatay. But millions still have to live in containers. The government continues to treat earthquake victims as customers for the sake of rent. In an earthquake in Istanbul, we will remember Hatay and Maraş; even there, Turkey experienced a huge impact. Turkey would remain under this rubble. The danger has not passed, it continues, and precautions must be taken.
MAY 1 MESSAGE
My dear worker and laborer brothers and sisters. We are holding this meeting on the eve of May 1. As the DEM Party, we will be in the squares all over Turkey. Mr. Öcalan's call for peace and a democratic society opens the door to a new era. Peace is as vital as bread for laborers.
A democratic society is the life insurance of the worker and the oppressed. Resources should flow to humane living, not war. Organized labor must be strengthened with peace. The unity of workers and the brotherhood of peoples is not just a wish. It is for the Turkish worker and the Kurdish worker to realize that their fate is the same and to hold each other's hands. We call on all laborers and peoples to the squares on May 1 for bread, peace, and freedom.
DREW ATTENTION TO CHILD LABORER DEATHS
May 1, 2025, is being held at a time when the darkness is at its deepest. In the last 20 years, during the period that the AKP describes as the 'glamorous era,' nearly 35 thousand workers have lost their lives in work-related murders. We will never remain silent on this issue. We must organize more for children working at the age of 13-14.
ADDRESSED MINISTER ŞİMŞEK: ARE YOU MOCKING PEOPLE'S INTELLIGENCE?
We are in the midst of a very major economic crisis and misery. 3.6 million people in Turkey are living in conditions of extreme poverty, if that can be called living. It is so dire that people can no longer even afford to put headstones on the graves of their loved ones. This system has forced them to use plastic sheets instead because marble and stone are too expensive.
Minister Şimşek says yes, there is inflation; but the reason for this is that citizens are buying durable goods. This is what you call mocking people's intelligence. Minister Şimşek, I am addressing you; are you mocking people's intelligence? Do you, as a scientist, believe this? At least do not make statements that mislead society.
REACTION TO OPERATIONS BEFORE MAY 1
This morning, we woke up to another dawn operation. Many of our revolutionary comrades were detained. These detentions will not intimidate us; they must be released immediately. I state here that we are in solidarity with them and demand their immediate release.
"NORMAL BIRTH" DEBATES
Women decide for themselves whether to give birth and how many children to have. Women do not negotiate with the political government on how to give birth; they sit down with their doctor and decide together. What falls to the government is to respect these decisions. We women have not said, and will not say, 'This order has come and gone like this' to the imposed male-dominated policies. We are women who struggle with the motto 'Jin, jiyan, azadi' (Woman, life, freedom), and it will continue to be so.
Take responsibility, listen to the demands of society. This society now wants peace. Listen to the cries of many Kurdish, Turkish, and Arab mothers.
We wish for the Rojava National Conference to bring peace to the peoples of Syria and the Middle East, especially the Kurdish people, and for it to be auspicious.
TOUCHED ON THE NEW PROCESS, PASSED THE BALL TO THE GOVERNMENT
The ball is now in the government's court regarding the steps that need to be taken, especially the freedom of communication and work for Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. The responsibility is now theirs, and I want to underline once again that we expect them to act according to this responsibility. In this context, we invite them to listen to the people's calls for peace. As the DEM Party, we are in a total mobilization."
