Deputy mayor assaulted in his office: Statement issued by the Governor's Office

In İzmir, Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez was assaulted in his office.

RÜZGAR SÖNMEZ PUNCHED IN HIS OFFICE

According to the information received, Y.T. and those accompanying him, who came to the municipality for a license application, met with Sönmez in his office. During the meeting, H.K., who was with Y.T., punched Sönmez. Upon notification, police teams were dispatched to the municipality.

It was learned that in his initial statement, Sönmez said that H.K., who claimed to be Y.T.'s cousin during the meeting, assaulted him. The injured Sönmez applied to Menderes State Hospital. Following the intervention there, Sönmez was transferred to Gaziemir State Hospital.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

In a statement regarding the incident, the İzmir Governor's Office stated that police teams were quickly dispatched to the scene after a report of assault was received at the Menderes Municipality at around 12:30 PM.

It was noted that H.K., who allegedly punched Sönmez, has been taken into custody and the investigation is continuing.
