Deputy Minister's brother among those detained in 'bribery' operations in Istanbul: 'Even if it is my brother...'

A striking detail has emerged in the bribery operation conducted in Istanbul this morning, in which 47 people were detained. Among those detained are Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat as well as Ahmet Aktaş, the brother of Deputy Minister of Interior Mehmet Aktaş.

AHMET ÖZER IS ALSO AMONG THE SUSPECTS

Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat was detained by the gendarmerie at his summer house in the Edremit district of Balıkesir. It was learned that proceedings were initiated against Akpolat on charges of "being a member of a criminal organization," "rigging tenders," and "unjust enrichment." It was stated that former Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was previously arrested, is also among the suspects in the operation.

HE HAS BEEN WORKING AS A CIVIL SERVANT FOR 20 YEARS

It was revealed that one of the detained suspects is Ahmet Aktaş, the brother of Deputy Minister of Interior Mehmet Aktaş. It was learned that Ahmet Aktaş has been working as a civil servant at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for 20 years.

In his statement regarding his brother, Deputy Minister of Interior Aktaş said, "I learned this morning that he was detained as part of the operation. The matter appears to be related to a job at the municipality. Since the investigation is confidential, we do not know the details. However, even if it is my brother, if he has done something wrong, the necessary action must be taken."
