Dervişoğlu’s reaction to Kurtulmuş over ‘framework law’: We will not accept preparations made behind closed doors

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met with İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu at the Parliament as part of the contacts regarding the framework law, which the government calls the “Terror-Free Turkey” process.

Speaking after the meeting, which lasted approximately 50 minutes, Dervişoğlu stated that Kurtulmuş provided information but noted that he himself would not be making any evaluation. Dervişoğlu indicated that they conveyed their objections and concerns regarding the process during the meeting.

“IS THERE A WRITTEN TEXT?”

Dervişoğlu said he asked Kurtulmuş whether there was a written text regarding the framework law, to which he received the response that “preparations are ongoing.”

Arguing that some decisions were made in “inappropriate settings,” Dervişoğlu expressed his belief that some political parties have more information about the content of the process. The İYİ Party leader said, “I am of the opinion that some facts are being hidden from political parties in our position. Therefore, it is impossible for us to directly accept preparations made behind closed doors that are contrary to the expectations of the nation.”

Stating that their stance has not changed since the beginning of the process, Dervişoğlu emphasized that the terrorist organization laying down its arms is a prerequisite. Noting that they have not received sufficient information from official authorities, Dervişoğlu argued that information can only be followed through the statements of organization leaders and those who visit İmralı.

Dervişoğlu said they conveyed to Kurtulmuş their concerns that the draft law could make the Republic of Turkey appear as if it has “knelt before a terrorist organization” or be perceived as such.

Stating that they were not given a date regarding when the framework law would come to Parliament, Dervişoğlu expressed his belief that the goal is to complete the process before Parliament goes on recess.

''IT WOULD PUT THE STATE IN A DIFFICULT POSITION''

Dervişoğlu stated, “If the organization wants it, the political extension of the organization voices its demands, and the Republic of Turkey approves this through the Parliament, this would put the state in a difficult position.” The İYİ Party leader noted that they would oppose the regulation “to the end,” arguing that it would make the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) an instrument of this process due to its content.

Responding to a question about calling Parliament for an extraordinary session, Dervişoğlu stated that this topic was not discussed during the meeting.
