Detained IMM executive Murat Ongun resigns from CHP: 'I am leaving my membership in a usurped party'

Murat Ongun, an advisor to the IMM Mayor and Chairman of the Board of Medya A.Ş., who is currently detained as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has announced his resignation from CHP membership.

Submitting his resignation petition to the CHP Beylikdüzü District Presidency, Ongun reacted sharply in his statement to the discussions regarding "absolute nullity" within the party and to developments he claimed were taking place around the Istanbul Provincial Presidency.

In his statement, Ongun used the phrase "spokesperson for nullity in Ankara" to oppose comments regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's defense. Ongun, who argued that a banner hanging at the Istanbul Provincial Presidency was taken down under police supervision that same night, described these two developments as "vile and treacherous."

EMPHASIS ON İMAMOĞLU IN RESIGNATION TEXT

In his petition, Murat Ongun stated that he made the decision to resign "first for his own honor," and then on behalf of Ekrem İmamoğlu and the voters who cast their ballots for him. Arguing that service to the CHP should be measured not just by time but by success, Ongun asserted that the Beylikdüzü organization and İmamoğlu had brought significant achievements to the party's base.

Ongun concluded his statement with the words, "I hope that hundreds of thousands of CHP members will also protect their honor with the same reaction and put these insolent, ambitious people in their place."

The full text of Murat Ongun's resignation statement is as follows:

"As I write this difficult petition, a line by Metin Altıok is on my lips: 'I am silent, and as I remain silent, my heart grows moldy.' With this resignation petition, I am wiping away the mold from my heart.

I am resigning from my party membership, and I am sending this resignation text with sadness to Turkey's most successful district organization.

Service to the CHP is not merely a matter of time, as some use as a badge of pride. It is a matter of success. The Beylikdüzü CHP organization and its leader, Mr. Ekrem İMAMOĞLU, have brought the successes that millions of CHP members have been waiting for for decades to the members of this party.

Such being the case; the spokesperson for nullity in Ankara interpreted the obstruction of Mr. İmamoğlu's defense as 'He used his right to remain silent.' That same night, the fake trustee had the banner hanging at the Istanbul Provincial Presidency taken down under police supervision. Both of these attacks are vile and treacherous. This expression also describes the authors of this decision.

I have not eaten donkey tongue so that I would have no voice. With this petition, I am resigning from my membership in a usurped party. I am resigning first for my own honor, and then for the honor of Ekrem İmamoğlu and the millions of voters who cast their ballots. I hope that hundreds of thousands of CHP members will also protect their honor with the same reaction and put these insolent, ambitious people in their place."
