DEVA files criminal complaint against CHP mayor

DEVA Party Head of Law and Justice Policies Mustafa Yeneroğlu, in a statement regarding the decision made by the Afyonkarahisar Municipality concerning the 'Marriage Service Fee' for refugees, stated: "Setting the marriage service fee at 10,000 TL for refugees, which is 25 times higher than what our citizens pay, is contrary to both the laws and the Constitution, as well as international law. The right to marry and establish a family is a fundamental right for everyone. Burcu Köksal and those who made this decision have committed the crimes of discrimination, hate speech, and abuse of office,” he said.

According to a report by Gazete Duvar, Yeneroğlu said, “I invite all CHP officials and citizens to take a firm stance against this evil.”

Stating that as a member of parliament who lived in Germany until the age of 40 and dedicated his life to fighting against discrimination directed at Turks and Muslims in Germany, he would not remain silent about the discrimination against vulnerable people and all others in his beautiful country, Yeneroğlu used the following expressions:

I see filing a criminal complaint against this person, who commits discrimination and hate crimes against vulnerable people, as a requirement of humanity. I invite all CHP officials and citizens to take a firm stance against this evil. Contrary to the common understanding in my country, I have full faith that opposing all kinds of injustice, no matter who it is directed against, is in the highest interest of our nation.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the local elections, the Afyonkarahisar Municipality had banned Arabic signs. Additionally, the marriage fee, which was 750 TL, was increased to 10,000 TL for refugees living in the city. 

CHP Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal had stated: "We added the expression that the prices determined for marriage fees will be applied as 25 times for temporary refugees. We will apply the general expenses determined for the municipal wedding hall, which is 400 TL, as 10,000 TL for them as the marriage fee."
