The Republican People's Party (CHP) candidates for the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and district mayoralties have been announced.

In İzmir's Dikili district, Adil Kırgöz has been re-nominated. Kırgöz's candidacy has drawn a reaction from Osman Özgüven, known as the 'legendary mayor' of Dikili.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, Özgüven criticized the CHP administration's decision and summarized the potential consequences if the mistake is not corrected with the following words: "If this mistake is not corrected, the Chairman, the Central Executive Board (MYK), and the Party Assembly (PM) members will be responsible for our party losing the election in Dikili, which is a symbolic city."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had stated in his remarks at the Youth Meeting in Manisa on December 16, "When we announce mayoral candidates, we are announcing the Osman Özgüvens."
