Dilek İmamoğlu reveals they received signals of the detention decision! 'In recent weeks...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was taken into custody following a dawn raid on his home on March 19, following investigations opened against him.

Sharing a video regarding the police raid on his residence and his detention, İmamoğlu said, "We are facing great tyranny, but I want you to know that I will not be intimidated. I love you all very much. I entrust myself to my nation. I will continue to fight against that person and his mindset that uses this entire process like a tool."

Following the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu, protests began across the country.

Speaking to İpek Özbey from Sözcü, Dilek İmamoğlu said she was shocked and saddened by what had happened.

Dilek İmamoğlu lamented, “People's futures are being stolen. Systems that are the guarantee of equality and justice, and the values of our Republic are being demolished; people are being condemned to insecurity and uncertainty. The hope for a happier, more peaceful, fair, and democratic Turkey is being destroyed.”

Stating that the fact that thousands of people are protesting İmamoğlu’s detention gives strength to her and her family, Dilek İmamoğlu responded to the question, “Were you expecting a detention?” as follows:

“Unfortunately, we are no longer at a point where we can say 'Such a thing would not happen.' Lawlessness, arbitrary decisions, and injustice are being made a part of our lives. We all see this. The smear campaigns carried out through certain channels in recent weeks and the fake news put into circulation were giving signals that certain steps would be taken.”
