Following Ekrem İmamoğlu, Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu has also announced her departure from the CHP; in her statement, she emphasized justice, democracy, and the "NEW."
Following the imprisoned elected Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem İmamoğlu, his wife Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu has also announced her resignation from the Republican People's Party (CHP).
In a statement on her social media account, İmamoğlu stated that she does not see her decision to leave the CHP as "giving up," but rather as a result of not giving up on the values she defends.
Leaving the Republican People's Party, of which I have been honored to be a member for years, is not a surrender for me; on the contrary, it is a result of not giving up on the values I believe in.
In her statement, İmamoğlu said she believes that justice, equality, and democracy must be defended not just with words, but "for everyone, under all circumstances, and with determination."
Emphasizing democracy and the rule of law in Turkey in her post, İmamoğlu used the phrase, "It is with this belief that I am part of the NEW today."
Stating, "I believe that a fairer, freer, and more democratic Turkey is possible," Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu called on everyone who shares this hope to act together.
The statement also included web addresses for membership and support for the NEW.
