Doğu Perinçek's 'Sweden' call to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey: 'Yes to NATO is yes to the division of Turkey'

Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek made a statement following MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's announcement that he would 'vote yes' for Sweden's accession to NATO. Perinçek, who held a press conference regarding Sweden's NATO membership, which is set to be discussed in Parliament today at 15:00, stated the following:

"Mr. Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and Honorable Members of Parliament,

The issue of Sweden's accession to NATO will be discussed in the TBMM today at 15:00. US imperialism, the patron of NATO, martyred nine of our Mehmetçik (Turkish soldiers) in a raid it directed with special forces elements in Metina just ten days ago. Following the raid, it protected the PKK terrorist organization with armed force by closing the airspace with F-16 jets. It is also US imperialism and NATO that have been targeting our SİHAs (armed drones) and İHAs (drones) since October. US imperialism, the patron of NATO, has deployed its aircraft and tanks to the Aegean coasts of Greece, starting from Alexandroupoli and extending to the north of Crete. The barrels at US bases are pointed at Turkey.

Furthermore, US imperialism, together with Israel and Greece, is conducting the Noble Dina and Nemesis exercises in the Eastern Mediterranean, which target Turkey. The US and other NATO countries are imposing demands for the Turkish Army to withdraw from Cyprus. The US and Israel view Turkey as a primary threat.

NATO uses the posters of our Great Revolutionary leader Atatürk and our President Tayyip Erdoğan within the scope of enemy definitions in its own exercises. NATO's expansion towards the East and North means an intensification of the US and Israeli threat against Turkey. A 'yes' to NATO is a betrayal of our martyrs. A 'yes' to NATO is a betrayal of Turkey's independence and security."

"YES TO NATO IS YES TO THE DIVISION OF TURKEY"

Stating that 'saying yes to NATO means saying yes to the division of Turkey', Perinçek said, "NATO, under the patronage of the US, feeds, trains, arms, and unleashes the PKK terrorist organization against our Mehmetçik. NATO, under the patronage of the US, also feeds, trains, arms, and unleashes fake Islamist terrorist organizations like DAESH against our Mehmetçik. A 'yes' to NATO is a bullet fired at our Mehmetçik. A 'yes' to NATO is a 'yes' to the division of Turkey. NATO is not a defense organization; it is an organization for the US imperialism to control its NATO members. In Turkey, the March 12 coup, the September 12 coup, and most recently the July 15-16, 2016 coup were all orchestrated by NATO and carried out by NATO-aligned generals. All FETÖ-aligned generals are NATO-aligned," he expressed.

Perinçek concluded his speech with the following words:

"90 percent of our people are against American imperialism and NATO. I challenge you: let's go to a referendum and ask the nation about NATO. The nation says no to NATO. The nation elected a National Assembly, not a NATO Assembly. Members of Parliament cannot be NATO deputies.

We know that the AK Party administration promised approval to Sweden during its negotiations with the US. AK Party deputies and MHP deputies cannot share this shame. Members of Parliament have taken an oath of allegiance to Turkey's independence and integrity. A deputy cannot break their oath of independence. We call on our deputies to vote against Sweden's accession to NATO.

Turkey has entered a difficult process in which it will settle accounts with the US and NATO in terms of security and economy. In this process, the Vatan Party will lead the Turkish state's independence, its nation's unity, heroism, and sacrifice. We promise our nation and our martyrs: we will definitely emerge victorious from the struggle against the US and NATO."
