Ekrem İmamoğlu on earthquake: The country's greatest survival issue

Ekrem İmamoğlu on earthquake: The country's greatest survival issue

Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere. During the visit, İmamoğlu evaluated the suffering and support processes following the major earthquake that occurred in 2023.

WE MUST WALK WITH OUR HEADS BOWED

İmamoğlu stated, "We must truly walk with our heads bowed. This great pain we experienced in 2023, the 100th anniversary of our Republic, 25 years after the Gölcük Earthquake, is shameful. The earthquake has turned into a situation beyond a disaster that completely destroyed our people." İmamoğlu noted that they would announce a support package for the earthquake-stricken regions.

WE ARE LAYING THE FOUNDATION OF OUR NEW BUILDING

During the visit, Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere expressed that the visit by İmamoğlu and his delegation was a great source of morale, stating, "Our municipal building was destroyed; we are trying to provide services from two floors. Tomorrow, we will lay the foundation of our new building. Your support has given us great strength."

Ekrem İmamoğlu drew attention to earthquake risks in Istanbul and other cities, saying, "Istanbul is a city where we feel this aspect at every moment and continue our work. The earthquake is the country's survival issue. We must improve our ability to act together. We have not yet achieved this reflex in Istanbul."

Ekrem İmamoğlu emphasized that with their visit to Adıyaman, they are supporting the mayors and local administrations in the region. He said, "As all local administrations, we want the municipalities in these regions to be strong and for the cities to return to normal as soon as possible."

WE MUST CONTINUE THE STRUGGLE

During the visit, İmamoğlu highlighted the importance of the difficulties experienced after the earthquake and the support processes, stating, "We must continue this struggle as a whole. By walking with our heads bowed and acting together, we can manage these processes better."
