May 1st message from Ekrem İmamoğlu: 'The responsibility of unions is increasing'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu shared a "May 1st" message on X.

In his message, İmamoğlu stated the following:

"A DREAM OF A TURKEY WHERE SOCIAL PEACE IS ACHIEVED..."

"Happy May 1st Labor Day to the workers and laborers of Istanbul and Turkey who produce and carry our country on their shoulders with their sweat. May 1st also means solidarity. For 5 years, we have displayed the best examples of solidarity-based municipalism without discriminating against our citizens, and we will continue to do so. As the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, we have managed union processes in an exemplary manner for 5 years. I am proud to state that the number of unionized employees, which was 31 thousand when we took office, has reached exactly 83 thousand today. The number of 8 unions in 7 lines of work has increased to 15 unions in 12 lines of work. Wages and working hours have been improved in our institution in favor of the employees. It should not be forgotten that Turkey has now entered a highly sensitive process with the March 31st election. This process also increases the responsibility of our unions; they need to analyze all processes not from a single angle, but from different perspectives. Otherwise, the solution to the issues that are the subject of complaints will remain neglected. Happy May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day on the path to realizing a Turkey where labor, the highest value, is not exploited, social justice is provided, job security is guaranteed and provided in the strongest way, and union organization is widespread. Happy May 1st International Workers' Day on the path to creating a Turkey where women are strongly represented in working life, child laborers return to their schools, and working hours and conditions are brought to European standards. Happy May 1st on the path to a dream of a Turkey where poverty is eradicated through the struggle for equality and freedom, and prosperity and social peace are achieved. In the name of a Turkey where labor meets technology, where the laborer achieves their mental development in the best way, and where happiness and labor are blended together, I say long live May 1st.
