Ekrem İmamoğlu's response to Erdoğan on nurseries: 'This happens because he has become detached from the public'
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu responded to President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan following his remarks regarding municipal nurseries.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu responded sharply to the statements made by AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Reacting to Erdoğan's criticisms of municipalities, İmamoğlu emphasized the work municipalities are doing to protect the public.
"THESE ARE THE SOCIAL POLICIES WE ARE IMPLEMENTING"
Reminding of the social policies municipalities are carrying out against the economic crisis, İmamoğlu said, "Our approximately 415 heroic mayors are striving to keep our people healthy amidst the economic depression they have created." He also noted that projects such as city restaurants, dormitories, nurseries, and scholarships are among the support services provided by municipalities during this period.
"THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BECOME DETACHED FROM THE PUBLIC"
In response to President Erdoğan's critical remarks, İmamoğlu stated, "He shouldn't say these things to us; he should go and debate with a retiree on the street, talk to a university student, or debate with a mother who cannot afford to send her child to a nursery or school." Stating that Erdoğan's detachment from the public leads to such outcomes, İmamoğlu argued that problems should be solved by establishing a dialogue with citizens.
