Embargo from X on mayor who supported İmamoğlu! Account suspended

Torbalı Mayor Övünç Demir announced that his own account was suspended after he changed his profile picture to show solidarity against the suspension of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's social media account. 

"A CLEAR INTERFERENCE WITH FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION"

In a written statement regarding the matter, Demir noted the following:

“I had changed my profile picture to a photo of Mayor Ekrem to show our solidarity against the suspension of our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu's X account.

Immediately after this, my verified X account was suspended. This is not just a social media restriction; it is a clear interference with the elected representatives of the people, freedom of expression, and democratic solidarity.

"I declare clearly from here: No matter what they do, we will not take a single step back from defending what is right and true. Our path is the path of the people. Every voice that is attempted to be silenced or intimidated will ring out even louder. The will belongs to the nation.”
