EMEP Hatay Metropolitan Mayoral Candidate İmrek: 'Their only concern is profit and rent'

Labor Party (EMEP) Hatay Metropolitan Mayoral candidate Halil İmrek made evaluations regarding the election process. Reminding of Hatay's current problems, he said, "The AKP government is the primary party responsible for the earthquake destruction." İmrek stated that the second person with responsibility is "CHP Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, who vouched for the contractors."

"THEIR ONLY CONCERN IS PROFIT AND RENT"

İmrek said, “With the presidential decree issued after the earthquake, the reconstruction, tenders, and zoning permits of the cities that experienced destruction were directly tied to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and local directorates. The state became the authority for everything related to permanent housing, including the location, construction, soil survey, architecture, and all matters pertaining to permanent residences.

In that case, creating a Hatay that is resistant to disasters is the direct responsibility and obligation of the state. So, will the state do this? Will it build cities resilient to disasters? One year of action is proof that this obligation has not been fulfilled. Their only concern is profit and rent,” he said.

"THEY ARE SWIMMING IN WATER"

Mentioning the current problems in Hatay, İmrek said, “The newly built Defne State Hospital has been flooded 3 times in one year, and there are hardly any doctors to be found. Hatay is one of the provinces that suffered the most damage in the earthquake. There is a need for 320 thousand housing units. The right to shelter and housing is the most important issue. 219 thousand people are struggling to survive in 79 thousand 339 containers across 205 container cities. Most of them are swimming in water because their locations were determined incorrectly. Electricity and water problems continue to be experienced. Debris removal and the demolition of heavily damaged buildings are still ongoing in Hatay. The rubble creates environmental pollution and will cause serious potential diseases in the future.

To those who are uncomfortable with what is happening, we are here. We are the candidates of the workers and laborers. Let us unite and fight to rebuild our city against all these problems.”

Stating that they want the support and votes of all workers, laborers, and all leftists, socialists, and revolutionaries in Hatay, İmrek said, "The local elections will pass, and afterwards, the attack of capital will blow like a storm. The Labor Party calls on the working class and the laboring people to prepare against this capital attack. It calls on our worker and laborer people to join unions and expand their organizations. Our project is; organizing, uniting, and fighting together. The Labor Party says that in this period when the fight for rent has intensified, the only way for work, bread, and freedom is through organized struggle. It is not too late to unite,” he said.
