Erbakan's statement on 'trustees' and 'new Constitution': 'After receiving the nation's support...'

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş received New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan as part of discussions on a new constitution.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, which lasted approximately 45 minutes, Erbakan said they held a general discussion regarding Turkish politics and the country's issues.

"WE STATED THAT WE WOULD SUBMIT THE DRAFT"

Stating that Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş expressed that they are working on a new constitution at the request of the ruling wing and a significant portion of society, Erbakan noted the following:

"They expressed that they expect parties with groups in Parliament, and even those without, to contribute to this effort. The meeting took place in this context. They stated that they wanted to receive our recommendations, proposals, views, and ideas on this point. As the New Welfare Party, we have already been working on a draft constitution recently. This has almost reached its final stage. We told the Speaker of Parliament that we would submit our draft constitution. He also stated that such a constitution should be the constitution of the entire nation and that it would be beneficial to make it with the highest possible level of consensus by taking the views of every segment."

CRITICISM OF TRUSTEE APPOINTMENT

In response to a question regarding the appointment of a trustee to the Hakkari Municipality, Erbakan replied, "First of all, this person's candidacy should not have been allowed to happen. Permission to run for office should not have been granted, and the issue should not have reached this point. When this is not done, and there is no apparent obstacle to their candidacy, taking such actions after they have been elected and have received the support and votes of the nation harms social peace, the government, and the authorized institutions. It is a more correct path to take precautions from the beginning and not allow the candidacy of people in this situation."
