Erdoğan-Bahçeli meeting had become a tangled mess: Decision made
Following AKP President Erdoğan's remarks that "the 50+1 rule should be changed," MHP leader Bahçeli had defended the continuation of the system. It had been claimed that the meeting between Erdoğan and Bahçeli was postponed. It has been learned that Erdoğan and Bahçeli will meet.
AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement to journalists upon his return from his visit to Germany, had expressed that he was in favor of changing the 50+1 percent requirement for being elected President.
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, on the other hand, responded by saying, “The democratic legitimacy of this system is 50+1 percent," adding, "As the MHP, we hold the same view today as we did yesterday."
Talk had begun that the meeting would be canceled, and it was claimed that it would be postponed.
KÜÇÜK: BAHÇELİ HAD REACTED
Journalist Cem Küçük, known for his proximity to the AKP, addressed the situation in his program.
Küçük stated, “President Erdoğan has postponed his meeting with MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli for the second time. It has been postponed twice. It could be due to busy schedules or something else. But information is also coming in that they will definitely meet. Bahçeli had shown some reaction to Erdoğan's 50+1 remark. He had said, ‘The basis of this system's democratic legitimacy is 50+1 percent.’ Erdoğan had also said that it would be appropriate for 50+1 to be changed.”
THE MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE
The meeting is expected to take place today around 15:00.
