A Damascus surprise from Erdoğan? He might break his fast there during Ramadan: The burgundy carpet detail at the Umayyad Mosque!
Former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar has suggested that President Erdoğan could make a surprise visit to Damascus during the month of Ramadan. Meanwhile, it was stated that the burgundy carpets laid out in the Umayyad Mosque were selected by Erdoğan himself.
Appearing as a guest on the Medya Kritik program broadcast on TGRT Haber, former AKP MP and writer Şamil Tayyar made notable remarks regarding President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's potential visit to Syria.
Tayyar said, "Our President might pull a surprise during the month of Ramadan. You might suddenly see him wanting to break his fast in Damascus. I am not saying this as confirmed information, but I want to draw attention to such a possibility."
CARPETS SELECTED PERSONALLY BY ERDOĞAN
While these statements brought the normalization discussions on the Ankara-Damascus line back to the agenda, Turkey's contribution to the renovation works carried out at the Umayyad Mosque drew attention. It was learned that the carpets, which were produced in Gaziantep and provided by Turkey, have been laid in the mosque. It was stated that the burgundy-colored carpets were personally selected by President Erdoğan.
