Erdoğan had signaled it: One more day is becoming an official holiday!

Following the statement by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the 2025 Nevruz celebrations, where he said, "It is our wish for March 21 to be declared an official holiday as the Festival of Spring and Brotherhood," a concrete step has been taken. AK Party Istanbul Deputy Serkan Bayram has submitted a legislative proposal to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for March 21 to be recognized as "Nevruz Day Holiday."

Speaking at a press conference held in Parliament, Bayram emphasized that March 21 is an important day in both natural and cultural terms. Stating that this date, when day and night are equal, is not just an astronomical event but also a symbol of social unity, Bayram said, "Nevruz is an ancient tradition celebrated by many peoples. It is a festival of rebirth, brotherhood, and solidarity. For this reason, I have prepared a proposal for March 21 to be declared an official holiday."

''NEVRUZ MEANS THE EXIT FROM ERGENEKON''

Touching upon the historical roots of Nevruz, Serkan Bayram used the following expressions:

"Nevruz means a new day, a rebirth. Nevruz means unity, togetherness, and brotherhood. Nevruz means the Epic of Ergenekon. We want to crown this common value with official status. In this context, I have submitted our proposal, which envisions an amendment to the Law on National Holidays and General Vacations, to the Speaker of the Parliament."

Bayram also stated that they proposed adding March 21 to the text of the law as "Nevruz Day Holiday" in the proposal.

''I EXPECT THE SUPPORT OF ALL PARTIES''

Underlining that the issue is above politics, Bayram said, "Our President, Mr. Erdoğan, also expressed his will in this direction during Nevruz. I hope this proposal will be accepted with the common will of all our parties and deputies. This will also contribute to social peace."

Serkan Bayram, who also holds the titles of United Nations Peace Ambassador and European Economic Senator, reminded that Nevruz is celebrated by different societies around the world and emphasized that Turkey crowning this tradition with an official holiday would be an important message.
