Erdoğan leaves 'right to hope' question unanswered

President Erdoğan did not make any statement during his party's group meeting regarding the remarks made last week by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, who called for the 'right to hope' for Abdullah Öcalan.

As he was leaving the group meeting, Erdoğan left a journalist's question, "What do you think about Bahçeli opening the agenda for the 'right to hope' for the terrorist leader Öcalan?" unanswered. Erdoğan, who listened to the reporter's question silently and attentively, then said, "Let's clear this crowd," and continued walking without responding to the question.

HE DID NOT MENTION IT AT THE GROUP MEETING EITHER

Speaking at his party's group meeting, Erdoğan expressed full support for the call made by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli on October 22, eight days after it was made. However, he did not say anything regarding the 'right to hope' emphasis in Bahçeli's call for Öcalan.

Erdoğan used the following expressions:

"Following the July 15 coup attempt, by establishing the People's Alliance, we both added strength to our state and instilled self-confidence in our nation. From here, I once again express my greetings and gratitude to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and the entire MHP community on behalf of my group. Mr. Devlet is a leader who always leaves a mark on history and sets its direction with his stance, speeches, discourse, and politics, as well as his courageous initiatives. He has explained what nationalism is in the clearest, most explicit, and most striking way. Those who read his latest calls within this framework see the historic window of opportunity and are excited. Those who pursue personal agendas instead of common interests are struggling in a quagmire of inconsistency and empty talk. Our interlocutor is our nation. We know that our nation supports our approach of taking the necessary steps for Turkey to get rid of the burden of terrorism and to remain distant from the instabilities experienced in the world and its region. We have no call, and cannot have any, to the separatist terrorist organization in northern Iraq and Syria, or to the terror barons in Qandil."
