İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, who has been in the spotlight following his switch to the AKP, has now become the subject of a boycott at the council meeting after hosting AKP members at the municipality.

In Tugay's social media post regarding the visit, it was seen that a portrait of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had been hung in the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality building.

According to a report by Gökmen Ulu from Sözcü, in an interview Tugay gave to Ulu in July of last year, a photograph of Özgür Özel was on the wall.

On the other hand, Tugay decided not to attend the October ordinary meeting of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council for the second time. Mustafa Özuslu was temporarily assigned to chair the session.
However, members of the YENİ Party and the CHP, who form the majority in the council, protested Tugay's absence from the meeting and did not enter the hall. As a quorum could not be reached, Özuslu announced that the meeting was postponed to Thursday, October 15, at 18.00.
Making a statement in front of the meeting hall, YENİ Party İzmir Provincial Chairman Çağatay Güç stated that Tugay did not show the will to manage the council and said the following:
"We see that Cemil Tugay does not have the will to manage the Metropolitan Council. He is gripped by fear. We have things to say to his face when he comes. We will not let the council open until he comes."
