Erdoğan speaks at Istanbul University: Highlights health investments

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements regarding investments in the health sector at the Istanbul University Hospital Çapa Campus Collective Groundbreaking and Opening Ceremony.

In his speech, Erdoğan announced that a recruitment notice for 38 thousand non-physician personnel will be issued before the end of 2026. Arguing that the health infrastructure has been rebuilt in recent years, Erdoğan also shared figures regarding investments that have been put into service and are ongoing in Istanbul.

Touching upon the deep-rooted history of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Erdoğan said, "We are the representatives of a deep-rooted history in health. In our history, medicine has never been seen as an ordinary profession. The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine is also a legacy left to us by our ancestors."

STATEMENT ON ÇAPA AND ESENYURT HOSPITALS

According to the information provided by Erdoğan, the Çapa Internal Medicine Hospital was built on an area of 44 thousand square meters. The hospital has 186 beds, including 39 for intensive care, 56 outpatient clinics, and a daily treatment capacity for 31 people. Erdoğan stated that the hospital is equipped with seismic isolators and that a 26-bed coronary intensive care unit will also become operational.

Stating that the Esenyurt Hospital has 200 patient beds and a total of 50 intensive care beds, including neonatal intensive care units, Erdoğan said that the two hospitals will increase the health service capacity of Istanbul University.

Addressing the problems he argued were experienced in accessing health services in past periods, Erdoğan said, "We lived through bad days when patients were held hostage in hospitals. We had periods when those without money could not receive health services, when prescribed medicines could not be accessed, and when civil servants and workers went to separate hospitals. With the steps we have taken, we have reversed the picture in health over 24 years."

Erdoğan stated that 206 health facilities with an investment value of 223 billion liras have been opened in Istanbul, and the total bed capacity in the city has reached 45 thousand 390. He said that when the ongoing health investments are completed, the total investment amount made in Istanbul will reach 350 billion liras.
