Erdoğan targets Özgür Özel and Ali Mahir Başarır at candidate launch: 'That is in your nature!'

Following the martyrs, in the joint declaration crisis that began in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), AKP Group Deputy Chairwoman Leyla Şahin Usta targeted the CHP, which did not sign the declaration and published its own.

Usta, in her speech at the TBMM General Assembly, stated: "It is actually a very important text prepared with the will of the Parliament, which they called 'an A4 paper' and did not sign. It was a text showing that you do not refrain from saying, 'Yes, I also condemn this terrorist organization and terrorism' as a deputy here. There is no need to engage in such political polemics to avoid signing this. If you call the paper written on the Parliament's stationery, which bears our signatures, 'a piece of A4 paper,' then two days later you will call the flags behind us 'a piece of rag.' Don't take offense."

Usta's words drew reactions from the CHP benches. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır reacted to Usta with the words: "The flag you see here took this color with the blood of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms. Whether it is you or someone else who calls it a piece of rag, I will confront them. You will know your place. You cannot call the Turkish flag a piece of rag, even by analogy."

Today (January 18), AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who announced his party's mayoral candidates in Ankara, targeted CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır.

Reacting to the CHP's meetings with the DEM Party, Erdoğan said: "The CHP, which holds the status of our country's second-largest party, has unfortunately become the battering ram of imperialists under its current management. The cooperation they engaged in during the elections was continuing in secret. The cooperation that the CHP has made with the DEM members, who are experiencing a crisis of legitimacy because they cannot get out from under the control of the separatist terrorist organization, is the latest scene of a dirty game. By rolling out red carpets for the extensions of Qandil and removing Turkish flags and Atatürk pictures, they have made their cooperation public."

Stating that "The CHP is now also under the control of the party under the guidance of the separatist organization, it has been taken hostage by the DEM," Erdoğan added: "Mr. Özgür drove the final nail into the coffin of the party founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal by sending greetings to terrorists from the congress podium and cooperating with separatists."

Touching upon the 'flag' debate between Ali Mahir Başarır and Leyla Şahin Usta in Parliament, Erdoğan said: "Someone has come out in Parliament and used indecent expressions against my group deputy chairwoman, Leyla Hanım, claiming she attacked our flag. No member of the AK Party would call our flag 'a piece of paper, a rag'; that is in your nature. You cannot see such things in the AK Party. You will know well who you are talking to; you cannot attack the AK Party with deficiencies in your nature by hiding behind parliamentary immunity. On March 31, we will not only bring our cities together with real municipalism, but we will also save Mr. Özgür from tutelage and liberate him."
