Erdoğan targets Roblox: 'The epicenter of the racism trap is the virtual world'

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the Opening of the Academic Year and the Education Technologies R&D and Quality Summit.

Highlights from Erdoğan's remarks are as follows:

"Distinguished members of our ministry, our very valuable teachers, our dear students, and esteemed guests, I greet you all with my most heartfelt feelings of love and respect. I am very pleased to be with you on the occasion of the 5th International Summit on Technology Research, Development, and Quality in Education.

I extend my gratitude to all participants who will enlighten the audience with their academic work, papers, experience, and knowledge.

I wish for the 2024-2025 academic year to be auspicious for our students, teachers, and the entire education community.

We began the new academic year on Monday with orientation programs we organized for our preschool and first-grade primary school students.

Our other students will return to their schools on Monday, September 9. I embrace all our children who carry the excitement of school in their hearts after a summer break of approximately 3 months, and I pray to God for their continued success."

"GAMING PLATFORMS ARE POISONING OUR YOUTH"

-We frequently witness how social media and certain gaming platforms are poisoning our youth. In addition to encouraging violence, gaming platforms also act as intermediaries for promoting deviant trends that undermine our family structure.

It is not just violence and deviant trends that are being fueled, but also racism. Racist fascism, which turns our people against the other individuals they live with, is fed from these sources."

'THE RACISM TRAP'

The epicenter of the racism trap, which seeks to weaken Turkey economically, socially, and in terms of security, is the virtual world.

The unregulated structure of the digital world brings many threats with it. Criticisms are intensifying in line with the increasing risks.

We see that various measures and restrictions are being implemented in many countries around the world. Especially when Western states take very harsh measures to protect their own citizens, no one talks about freedoms.

Some circles in our country are acting as advocates for the interests of international companies instead of defending the rights and laws of our children.

The legitimization of violence, immorality, racism, hate crimes, and even abuse under the mask of freedom can never be accepted.

Erdoğan also stated the following regarding the Maarif Model, which is frequently criticized by educators:

"We aim to raise our children to be open-minded, equipped with national and spiritual values, and possessing the knowledge and skills required by the age."
