Erdoğan to Murat Bardakçı: Atatürk went to Libya, yet they question us when we go
President Erdoğan made a striking remark while examining a photograph of Atatürk taken in Libya at the Atatürk Museum Pavilion. Regarding Atatürk's presence in the Italo-Turkish War, he said, "Those who question us when we go to Libya forget that Atatürk was there."
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was welcomed at the Atatürk Museum Pavilion by historian and author Murat Bardakçı and other officials. Following the opening, Erdoğan and his entourage toured the pavilion and received information from the authorities.
While examining a photograph of Atatürk taken in Tripoli in 1912 with Fuat Bulca at the pavilion, Erdoğan said to Murat Bardakçı, "Mr. Murat, what are they saying to us? 'Why are you going to Libya?' You know who is saying it. Look, he went there, after all," he said.
"THEY ARE STILL TALKING"
Upon Bardakçı noting that the founding cadre of the Republic had been in Tripoli, Erdoğan remarked, "They are still talking, you know."
Erdoğan examined the items used by Atatürk and received information about the gifts presented to Atatürk, as well as his writing set and radio.
President Erdoğan also conducted an inspection of the Embassy Reception Hall, where ambassadors starting their duties in Turkey presented their letters of credence to Atatürk. Here, Erdoğan received information about a locked cabinet on display.
Erdoğan was accompanied at the opening by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun.
