Ertuğrul Özkök makes explosive claim about CNN Türk: Fahrettin Altun intervened in live broadcast
Journalist Ertuğrul Özkök has brought to light allegations that the Presidential Communications Directorate gave direct instructions to the control room during CNN Türk's live broadcast on November 6. Özkök stated, "The warning to the control room that night came from Fahrettin Altun."
Ertuğrul Özkök wrote about what happened during Ahmet Hakan's broadcast on CNN Türk on the night of November 6. He brought up a significant allegation regarding the Presidential Communications Directorate.
In his article on T24, Özkök stated that the Presidential Communications Directorate was calling control rooms directly during broadcasts to issue instructions.
Özkök described what Ahmet Hakan experienced during the broadcast. He reported that Hakan was frequently warned by the control room, leading Hakan to react on air by saying, "Okay, okay, we understood."
Ertuğrul Özkök noted the following in the relevant section of his article:
“This incident took place in the CNN Türk control room in Istanbul. At that moment, Ahmet Hakan was on air in a live broadcast. He was discussing the Syria issue with the talking heads he had invited. At that time, he was receiving frequent warnings in his earpiece from the control room.
Ahmet Hakan finally could not take it anymore and snapped at the control room in a way that his guests and we, the viewers, could hear: 'Okay, okay! We understood, we will call HTS a terrorist organization…'
We all learned that much of the scene. But we did not learn the exact content of the conversation between him and the control room. More importantly, who was talking to the control room before this conversation…
Because as far as we understand, a 'message' had come to the control room 'from somewhere'… And the control room had relayed 'that message' to Ahmet Hakan.
Presumably, Ahmet Hakan did not take this warning very seriously after the first conversation and just continued to say 'HTS'.
Again, presumably, second and third warnings came to the control room from the same place after that. We joined this event at the final point, that is, when Ahmet Hakan gave that reaction.
The issue we have not dwelled on since that day is this: Who made the phone call to the control room that night saying, 'Call HTS a terrorist organization'? I give zero probability to such a warning coming from the Hürriyet management.
Then three possibilities remain. ONE: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TWO: MIT, THREE: The Presidency…
Subsequent events eliminated the first two possibilities. Only one possibility remained, which I was already sure of. The warning to the control room that night came from the Presidential Communications Directorate.
In other words, from Fahrettin Altun… Because there is a topic that has been talked about a lot in media circles recently.
The Presidential Communications Directorate is reportedly no longer calling the owners or editors-in-chief of pro-government news channels, but is calling the control room directly during broadcasts to give instructions. Warnings like 'Why did you say it like that?' or 'Why did you bring this person on?' have become routine. My guess is that something like that happened that night.”
