Esergül Balcı joins the wave of resignations from IYI Party: 'Turkey is now on the edge of the abyss between light and darkness'
A new name has been added to the series of resignations within the IYI Party. Prof. Dr. Esergül Balcı, an education policy expert who prepared a report on religious sects while serving at a university in 2018, has also resigned from the IYI Party.
IYI Party continues to see a wave of resignations. Education policy expert Prof. Dr. Esergül Balcı has announced her decision to leave the party.
Balcı was known for the "Report on Religious Sects" she prepared in 2018 while serving at a university. In her resignation statement, she noted that she had retired due to the pressures she faced following the report and policy disagreements within the party.
Arguing that the IYI Party has been pursuing policies contrary to its founding purpose, Balcı used the following expressions in her statement:
"I took on a role in the IYI Party with the hope that it would be successful in resolving the negative developments emerging in every field in our country. For this reason, I moved from Izmir to Ankara upon invitation. In addition to my academic work, I also fulfilled the duties assigned to me by the party. However, Turkey is now on the edge of the abyss between light and darkness. Therefore, our country has no tolerance for contradictory policies or 'lose-lose' style approaches."
Balcı stated that as a 'Republican Woman' who has dedicated her life to the Republic and its Revolutions, she is determined to continue her political and social work in line with the same principles. However, expressing that the policy and understanding within the IYI Party gave the impression of being an obstacle to realizing these principles, she emphasized that she realized her goal of contributing to the party would not be realized and would not be permitted, and shared with the public that she had resigned from the IYI Party.
