Exclusive- Turmoil in AKP following Özel-Arınç meeting: Reaction over office space

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel visited former Parliament Speaker Bülent Arınç in his office at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Following the visit, former AKP deputy Mehmet Metiner expressed his reaction to Arınç and the practice of office allocation in Parliament through a post on his social media account.

METİNER'S REACTION TO OFFICE AND EXPENSES

In his post, Metiner stated that he is against the allocation of rooms and offices to former Parliament Speakers in the TBMM. Metiner criticized the practice, noting that these offices create additional costs for the public along with secretarial and various other expenses.

"WHY THE PRIVILEGE AND CONCESSION?"

Metiner used the following expressions in his post:

"IT IS A GREAT PITY..! Rooms/offices have been allocated to former parliament speakers in the TBMM. Each of them has a secretary, etc. Expense upon expense. Why this privilege and concession? I do not want to say more than this due to this blessed month of Ramadan. I do not know who introduced this practice. I do not know if it existed before our AK Party government. Whoever introduced it is wrong. It is a great pity, truly!"

"A KIND OF CASTE SYSTEM"

In the continuation of his statement, Metiner described the practice in question as a "privileged citizenship regime." Expressing his opposition to the allocation of offices to former Parliament Speakers, Metiner made the following assessment:

"There cannot be a privileged citizenship regime. What is this about allocating offices to former parliament speakers? This is a kind of caste system. It is truly a great pity! I hope this practice is brought to an end."
