Extraordinary convention calculations in CHP: Özgür Özel camp to wait until July 11

Discussions regarding an extraordinary convention in the Republican People's Party (CHP) are on the agenda with a new calendar calculation. It has been reported that the Özgür Özel camp is inclined to wait until July 11 before filing an application with the court for the convention.

It was previously stated that delegate signatures were submitted on June 17 and a 10-day period was granted for the Headquarters to take action. Despite the expiration of this period, according to sources close to Özel, an immediate application is not expected.

According to information reported by Mahir Kılıç from Habertürk, it is assessed that the 45-day period for an extraordinary convention will end on July 26, and that, in accordance with the CHP bylaws, the decision for the convention must be announced by July 11 at the latest. For this reason, it is stated that the Özel camp will wait for a possible move from the Headquarters until that date.

Expectations regarding the legal process within the party are also one of the important items on the calendar. It is noted that there is a strong view that the Court of Cassation could make a decision and finalize the process before the judicial recess begins on July 20.

It has been alleged that, against the possibility of an early or snap election, the option of switching to a party that is eligible to participate in elections is also among the alternatives on the table. In this context, it was claimed that Özel's aides have made contact with the Anatolia Union Party and the Innovation Party, chaired by former CHP deputy Öztürk Yılmaz.

While the possibility of a new political formation is being discussed, it has been suggested that the name "New Party" is coming to the fore for the party to be established. There is no official decision announced to the public on this matter yet.

The group meeting to be held on Tuesday in the CHP will also be closely watched. It was reported that on the same day as the meeting where Parliamentary Group President Özgür Özel is expected to take the podium, CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will also chair the Central Executive Board meeting.

It is stated that decisions for the expulsion of some provincial heads and the dismissal of others may emerge from the Central Executive Board meeting. Thus, both the convention calendar and decisions regarding party organizations will be decisive in the internal party debates.
