The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) had imposed an access ban on Instagram. Access to Instagram has still not been restored during the ban, which has exceeded 48 hours.

Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun, in his speech at the "Human Rights Training Program" held at the AKP Headquarters, made a call for 'domestic and national' media during the agenda of the access ban applied to Instagram.

'IT HAS DEEPENED INJUSTICE IN THE GLOBAL ARENA'

According to AA, Altun said the following in the relevant part of his speech:

"Just as our domestic and national media organizations emerged during this process, and just as brands were produced, similar ones need to be produced in the digital field, in the digital media field. I want to address the owners of conventional media companies: 'Come, invest much more in new media, in digital media.' I am not just talking about content production. I am talking about the construction of domestic and national social media platforms. The social media platforms we are facing are institutions that have the status of private companies. After investing in this field, they found a wide space for themselves, and as of today, they have unfortunately deepened injustice and the crisis of truth in the global arena. Against this, we need to produce our own domestic and national social media platforms. At this point, a very serious role falls upon our private sector. The success of our TV series industry in the world is evident. The success of Turkish companies in the world is evident. As long as we believe in this. Let us trust ourselves. As an institution, we are ready to provide all the facilitation we can in this process."

URALOĞLU HAD SAID 'WE COULD NOT GET WHAT WE WANTED'

Today, bureaucrats from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure held a meeting with Instagram officials; the request for the meeting came from Instagram. A final decision regarding Instagram was expected after the meeting. However, making a statement after the meeting, which ended at 19:00, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, "We did not get the exact result we wanted in the negotiations regarding the reopening of Instagram. I thought we could finish this today, but it did not happen. There is no progress regarding Instagram."
