Failed to become an HSK member, appointed as AKP district chair!

The AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency announced in a statement last week that İsmail Ergüneş has been appointed as the Gaziosmanpaşa District Chair. The party thanked Fatih Aydemir, who handed over the position, and wished Ergüneş success in his new role.

HANDOVER COMPLETED

The statement read, "As a result of consultations with our Headquarters Organization Presidency, Mr. Attorney İsmail Ergüneş has been appointed as the Gaziosmanpaşa District Chair." Ergüneş is known for his past experience as he begins his new role.

ERGÜNEŞ'S POLITICAL BACKGROUND

İsmail Ergüneş was appointed as the District Election Affairs Chair following the 2nd Ordinary Congress of the AKP Gaziosmanpaşa District Presidency in 2006. Having served as the Election Coordination Center Chair during the 2007 elections, Ergüneş was first elected District Chair in 2008 and was reappointed to this position in 2011.

MAYORAL CANDIDACY 

Ergüneş resigned from his position as District Chair in 2014 to run for the Gaziosmanpaşa mayoral nomination in the local elections and was subsequently appointed as a member of the Istanbul Provincial Presidency Organization Commission. Having held various roles throughout his political career, Ergüneş also served as an Advisor to the President of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) in 2017.

Appointed as Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services in 2021, Ergüneş took on various responsibilities within the ministry. In 2023, he was nominated for membership in the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) but was not selected in the lottery. Following his failure to be selected, Ergüneş has returned to his long-standing experience in district leadership, now assuming his duties as the Gaziosmanpaşa District Chair.
