Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan issued a statement on his social media account regarding the attack that occurred at the gate of a middle school in Istanbul's Başakşehir district, which resulted in the death of a student.
In the message he published following the attack, Erbakan expressed his condolences for the student who lost their life, wished patience for the family, and prayed for a speedy recovery for the injured students. However, he emphasized that simply publishing condolence messages after similar incidents is not enough.
The blood of our children has been shed at the gate of a middle school in Başakşehir, and we are laying another child to rest. Before the fire burning in Siverek, Kahramanmaraş, and Turgutlu has even been extinguished, this time a school in the heart of Istanbul has been plunged into mourning. But we can no longer settle for just offering condolences.
Stating that schools are a "second home" for children, Erbakan argued that the failure to ensure security at school gates is a serious problem in terms of the state's protective responsibility. Erbakan stated that measures taken after such attacks should not be limited to announcements that "an investigation has been launched."
Erbakan also noted that the issue cannot be explained solely by security measures at school entrances, stating that topics such as family structure, social media, violence broadcast on screens, and the isolation of young people must be addressed together.
Expressing that as the Yeniden Refah Party, they believe schools should be protected not only with security but also with spirituality, education with morality, and families "not with words, but with laws and willpower," Erbakan called for a permanent and holistic approach.
