Figure who resigned from IYI Party drops bombshell! “Developments are an operation to help the AKP win the election”
Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk reported that Faruk Köylüoğlu, the Ankara Provincial Chair who resigned from the IYI Party, stated, “The decisions of the Headquarters have become like an operation to help the AKP win the election. I hope they come to their senses. There is still plenty of time until the election; it would be beneficial to change their decisions during this process.”
IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener’s remarks regarding the local elections, "We will field candidates in all 81 provinces," have sparked debates within the party.
It was learned that before announcing the local election decision, Akşener met with some provincial chairs and administrators.
In this context, she invited 23 people under the leadership of Ankara Provincial Chair Faruk Köylüoğlu to the Headquarters. Taking the floor, Köylüoğlu and his deputies expressed that cooperation with the CHP would be beneficial for the elections.
According to the report by Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü; it is alleged that IYI Party Organization Chair Buğra Kavuncu called the chairs who made statements contrary to the GIK (General Administrative Board) decision and notified them to ‘either resign from their posts or be dismissed by the Headquarters.' It is stated that Kavuncu also called Faruk Köylüoğlu to inform him of the Headquarters' decision. Following this, it is noted that Köylüoğlu deemed it appropriate to resign.
In his statement, Köylüoğlu said, “We worked with all our might to end the 25-year AKP municipality in Ankara. Now, we are being asked to work for Mansur Yavaş to lose, even though it is known that the candidate we field will have no chance of winning. Yet, cooperation was also in our party's interest. We had achieved some gains. Would it have been bad if we had won a few metropolitan districts in Ankara? There was no need to be this aggressive. The developments have become like an operation to help the AKP win the election.”
