First call to Minister Çiftçi from CHP deputies
CHP figures have called on the new Minister of Interior, Mustafa Çiftçi, to reinstate Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar to his post.
Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar was arrested in July of last year and spent approximately seven months in prison. Although the accusations against him were brought up in Adana, Karalar served his time at the Silivri Prison in Istanbul. Zeydan Karalar, who was released on February 5, is waiting to be reinstated to his post while the judicial process continues.
CHP deputies and party officials addressed the newly appointed Minister of Interior, Mustafa Çiftçi, saying, "Sign your first act for the reinstatement of Mayor Zeydan." The court decided on Karalar's release on the grounds that "the conditions requiring the continuation of detention in terms of the status of evidence have weakened," and ensured his release.
Karalar's lawyer, Ahmet Orkun Parsak, who made a statement on the subject, said, "There is no legal obstacle to his reinstatement." CHP members are calling for the same process to be applied in Adana, recalling the example of Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, who was removed from office in a similar situation in the past period and returned to his seat after the judicial process.
