First reaction from DEM Party to CHP's Imralı decision

The DEM Party has reacted sharply to the CHP's decision not to participate in the visit to Imralı Island and not to attend the closed session. Making a statement on behalf of the party, Gülistan Koçyiğit criticized the CHP for failing to take responsibility, saying, "History is written by the brave."

CHP'S STANCE HAS BECOME CLEAR

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir announced his party's decision not to go to Imralı and not to participate in the commission's closed session. This stance by the CHP has drawn attention among other parties that have not yet announced their decisions regarding the Imralı visit.

The DEM Party leveled harsh criticisms at the CHP's stance. Making a statement on behalf of the party, Gülistan Koçyiğit said the following:

"History is written by the brave. And today we are at a historical threshold and we are writing history. Will we take responsibility for the construction of a democratic republic, or will we not? History will also write about those who do not take responsibility. This is not a matter of elections or votes. We are talking about our future. We are at a point where we must look beyond politics. We cannot circle around the problem. We cannot miss the solution once again by sweeping the problem under the rug."

"THE PROBLEM HAS AN INTERLOCUTOR"

Criticizing the CHP's stance, Koçyiğit emphasized that a call for peace cannot be merely rhetorical for the Imralı process to be resolved:

"The problem has an interlocutor. There is a main actor to the problem, an organization leader who disbanded his organization with a single call. The commission must truly meet with the interlocutor and establish the foundation for a roadmap. Wanting peace does not happen just by saying 'I want peace.' The issue is not just about persistence. The issue is the future. It is not possible for this process to progress without listening to Öcalan."

"LOVING YOUR PEOPLE MEANS LOOKING AT THE COUNTRY'S FUTURE"

Following the CHP's decision, the DEM Party stated that it is necessary to meet with Abdullah Öcalan for the peace process to move forward. Koçyiğit continued her words as follows:

"Loving your people comes not from current politics, but from looking at the future of the country. In this process, listening to Öcalan is an inevitable step for peace to be achieved. It is not possible to achieve a solution without the visit taking place."
