First reaction from Özgür Özel to the Public Savings Package! 'To those adding wealth to their wealth...'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was in Soma on the 10th anniversary of the mining massacre that occurred on May 13, 2014, along with members of his party's Central Executive Board (MYK).

Making statements to journalists after the MYK meeting, Özel reacted to the 'Public Savings Package' announced by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek.

"They have done this 7 times before, this is the 8th... The announcement of this 8th one is an indication that they themselves did not comply with the previous 7 circulars," said Özel, adding, "The distinguishing feature of today's package from the others is that the Palace, which we have always criticized, is being included in the scope of the circular for the first time."

"Everything written is important, but it needs to be followed up one by one," said Özel, and continued as follows:

"The fact that no new personnel will be hired for 3 years, that only as many personnel will be hired as those who retire, and that flexible and remote working models will be developed in the public sector is a extremely serious situation for laborers. This is a covert IMF program. If you bring in the IMF, you don't hire new public personnel, you don't give raises to workers, you don't give raises to retirees, and flexible working models will be developed anyway. Right now, the ghost of the IMF has come for the worker's livelihood."

DEMAND FOR A "FAIR TAX SYSTEM"

"They should turn a little toward employers, a little toward the rich, and a little toward those who add wealth to their wealth with the Currency-Protected Deposit scheme," said Özel, and noted the following:

"Otherwise, teachers are waiting for appointments, 20 thousand teachers will retire and they will hire 20 thousand teachers! You educated 1 million people, there are tons of unemployed, and you won't hire for the public sector! Of course, let there be no convoys, no leasing, let domestic vehicles be used; we support all of these. The circular we published goes even further than this. But we stand with the workers against all models that will exploit labor, such as lack of employment and flexible working. The next thing to be done is a fair tax system."
