First response from the ruling front to Bahçeli's 'I will go to İmralı' statement
Following MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli's remarks, 'If the commission does not go to İmralı, I will go with my own means,' a statement was made by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç. Tunç stated that the decision regarding a visit to İmralı belongs entirely to the commission in the TBMM.
While MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's remarks regarding İmralı during his group meeting have caused a wide stir on the Ankara agenda, the first official response to the statements came from Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç.
Minister of Justice Tunç answered questions from the press regarding the agenda at the opening ceremony of the “Protective and Restorative Approaches for Children in Judicial Processes Project” held in Ankara.
After the meeting, Minister Tunç was asked about Bahçeli's words, "If the commission does not go, I will go."
“THE AUTHORITY BELONGS ENTIRELY TO THE COMMISSION”
In his assessment regarding a visit to İmralı, Tunç drew attention to the commission established in the TBMM:
"The goal of a Turkey without terrorism is highly valued. There is a great consensus to ensure that the pain is not experienced again. The call made by Mr. Devlet Bahçeli on October 22 has paved the way for an important process. Following the call, statements have come regarding the dissolution of the terrorist organization and the laying down of arms."
Emphasizing the work of the commission established in Parliament, Tunç added the following:
"It is important that this process is supported by the TBMM. The commission established in Parliament has made significant progress. The majority of the parties represented in the TBMM are expressing their views. The issue raised by Mr. Bahçeli today can be realized in line with the decision to be made by the commission. The discretionary power belongs entirely to the commission. We will all wait for the decision the commission will make."
