First statement from Özgür Özel following IYI Party's GIK decision: 'We will expand our search for alliances to the social base'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements during his party's group meeting.

Özel announced that they would establish a complaint hotline regarding issues in KYK dormitories.

"KYK DORMITORIES"

Drawing attention to the negligence in KYK dormitories, Özel stated that they would fight until the problems are resolved through a commission established by his party. Özel noted that the decline in quality and the increasing risks in state dormitories are occurring due to persistent errors in government policies.

Emphasizing that the government leaves young people dependent on religious sect dormitories, Özel said, "The government did not build dormitories so that students would fall desperately into the lap of certain communities and sects. The CHP knows this game and those responsible."

Continuing with messages regarding the local elections, Özel announced that Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Osman Gürün will not be a candidate in the March 31, 2024 local elections. Stating that Gürün said he would hand over the torch to women and young people, Özel remarked, "May such a farewell be granted to every politician."

IYI PARTY'S GIK DECISION

Evaluating the IYI Party's decision to enter the field with their own candidates in all 81 provinces in the local elections, Özel said they respect the party's decision. Özel stated, "We will expand our search for alliances to the social base."

Highlights from Özel's statements are as follows:

"Incidents in dormitories continue one after another. Elevator accidents and food poisoning persist. We have formed a commission with 10 of our deputies to inspect KYK dormitories across Turkey and listen to the problems of the students there. Together with our youth branches, we will announce a youth hotline.

We will talk to whoever is relevant to the issue and intervene in the dormitory matter. Why has the quality in dormitories dropped? Because this government found money for many investments. It had roads and bridges built for TOKİ, but it did not build dormitories. Because they want our students to fall into the lap of sects and be raised by them to be resentful. The CHP knows this and is resolutely pursuing it.

OSMAN GÜRÜN DECISION IN MUĞLA

The CHP prides itself on clean, social, and green municipalism. Our Muğla Metropolitan Mayor has been serving Muğla for 25 years. The highest credit rating an institution can have in Turkey is AAA. That institution is the Muğla Municipality. Because when foreign lending institutions lend to the whole world, they have a credit rating like this because they are convinced they will get it back. In the last 10 years, they have built only 642 km of sewage systems. 3,252 km of roads have also been built in Muğla. Osman Gürün said, 'I am handing over the torch as the elder brother of Muğla.' May such a farewell be granted to every politician.

A delegation we will form from mayors will explain their experiences on municipalism at our headquarters. This is not a separation; there is also a reunion. Tanju Özcan, who served Bolu for many years, is among us again. (Turning to Özcan in the hall) Welcome, Mr. Mayor. I am calling out to all young people and women. Become candidates for municipal councils as well; I support you.

TÜİK CRITICISM

Inflation figures were announced yesterday. According to TÜİK, it is 62 percent; according to ENAG, it is 129 percent. The statistical institution that does not upset Tayyip, with its initials, determines inflation as 62 percent. Tomorrow, the raises for retirees and employees will be determined by these figures.

Money is being stolen from the pockets of employees by the state. Do not vote in March for those who take money from your pockets.

"AN OLD FRIEND DOES NOT BECOME AN ENEMY"

Let's come to the issue of alliances. I advocated for all the opposition to come together and cooperate against the People's Alliance. I did not use the word 'alliance'; that word has been worn out. For this, we made calls to our political counterparts. We visited Ms. Akşener on November 30. I suggested whether the GIK decision regarding fielding candidates in 81 provinces would be reviewed. When asked what I was proposing, we said, 'Let's set up a table and help each other win. Let's help Turkey win.' They were very gracious hosts. They said they would take it to the GIK.

I had said that we would respect both decisions that would be made. We maintain this respect. In all the districts we visited, we visited the district chairs just like our own district chairs. IYI Party voters are very good people who love Atatürk and their flag, just like us. An old friend does not become an enemy. The IYI Party is the party of good people. It is a party with which we have achieved many successes in the past and will achieve many things together in the future. From now on, we will expand our search for alliances to the social base.

We will cooperate with our entire nation so that they do not market Istanbul to Qatar and do not sell Ankara off parcel by parcel."
